Artist’s Corner - Inspirations
A Childhood Immersed in Music
My love for music was kindled in childhood, as I witnessed how it brought our whole family together, creating a space where we joyfully made music. Moments spent singing and playing instruments with my siblings. At the same time, my parents listened with encouragement, taught me that the heart of music lies in sharing love, finding inspiration, and spending meaningful time together.
The Gift of Encouragement
An artist’s early years strongly influence her artistic journey: the music she hears every day, the people around her, and her family’s support and inspiration. Her musical taste grows from the sounds that surround her as a child.
Parents are the first to open the doors of wonder for their children. My first inspiration was my mother, a singer, and my earliest guide. Always by my side, my mother’s keen ear helped me refine the clarity of each note and she instilled in me the discipline and dedication required for riyaz. My interest in semi-classical music, especially Thumri, was ignited by my father’s gift of the Immortal Thumris LP record. Listening to the voices of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Begum Akhtar, Girija Devi, Prava Atre, and other maestros became a deep fascination that reshaped my musical sensibilities.
By valuing artistic expression as much as academic or professional success, parents gave us continual support during our formative years. My parents meticulously arranged for dedicated tutors and coordinated with musicians, such as Tabla players, to join me for home practice sessions. Whether traveling for auditions or accompanying me at competitions, they have provided the structure and resources that have supported my musical growth since childhood.
