Beyond Music

Jayita holds two postgraduate degrees from India (M.Sc.) and the United States (MCRP).

Her early career began in the U.S when she joined as a research assistant under Dr. Christopher Elvidge. There, she contributed to a federally funded project (funded by the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA), and this work was published as a research paper and later as a book chapter in 2006. Jayita later attended the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington on a scholarship, earning her Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP) degree. There, she participated in several important urban planning projects, including pedestrian planning for Downtown Dallas, retail revitalization of downtown Dallas, and an economic development plan for the Town of Glenn Heights. She also assisted with the preparation of annual planning and zoning development reports for the City of Plano, Texas.

In Canada, Jayita contributed significantly to a 2005 research project with the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) that evolved into one of CUI’s signature initiatives. She has also supported several other underfunded non-profit organizations across Canada by designing data systems to help them manage information effectively and serve their communities.
