Early Foundation
Jayita began formal music training at the age of six alongside her sisters. Their first teacher, Sri Nripen Gangopadhyay of Gauhati, Assam, was a classically trained artist who opened their hearts to the timeless melodies of Indian classical and light classical music.
Jayita vividly remembers him singing Tarapada Chakravorty’s iconic compositions such as “Kotha galo shyam” and “Bone bone papaya bole.” Though she was too young at the time to master these complex pieces, they left a deep and lasting impression on her. Under his guidance, Jayita began learning Palta, Sargam, and Bandish with her siblings, building her musical foundation through regular practice.
Immersed in a rich musical environment of Indian classical and light classical music, she developed a profound love for music, inspired by the effortless way her teacher rendered each piece. This early foundation shaped her entire musical journey. Sri Nripen Gangopadhyay also composed many beautiful Bhajans, some of which she continues to sing to this day.
