Formative Years

A family relocation due to father’s job transfer brought a fresh start to Jayita’s musical journey. It was then, at the age of ten, that she came under the tutelage of Sri Subodh Das. A dedicated disciplinarian who further strengthened her foundational skills by always prioritizing classical music training over other genres of Indian music.

Later, after moving to West Bengal, Jayita continued her musical journey under the tutelage of Sri Biren Gangopadhyay. She eventually earned her Sangeet Visharad degree under the guidance of Sri Biren Ganguly. During this phase, she also started training in light classical genres, such as Thumri, alongside Khayal and other forms of Indian classical music.

As a teenager, Jayita was also fortunate to come into contact with Guruma Lalita Ghosh and Guruji Sri Jnan Prakash Ghosh and to receive some private lessons from them for some time. She learned Bhajan, Bengali Raagpradhan songs, and Geet.

This period proved transformative. She also began exploring semi-classical music and familiarizing herself with the works of eminent artists. This was an exciting chapter, as she had the privilege of meeting many renowned musicians through auditions, competitions, music lessons, and performances.
